The windows and the view were an important reason why we chose these particular rooms and why we were willing to pay the corresponding price.\n\nTo make sure everything was correct, we even called the hotel one day before our arrival and specifically asked whether we would actually receive the rooms we had selected when booking. We were assured that we would and were told that the rooms selected during the booking process would not simply be changed.\n\nUnfortunately, the reality upon arrival was very different.\n\nWe were given, among others, two connecting rooms on the 9th floor. One of them, room 913, was very spacious, but it still did not have the large corner windows we had booked. The connecting room, on the other hand, was small and cramped. It only had a one small window. There was absolutely nothing of the spacious room with a beautiful view that we had expected based on our booking.\n\nWhat made the situation even more frustrating was the discussion at reception. We were actually told that both rooms were the same size, which was simply impossible for us to understand based on what we could clearly see. Only after a lengthy discussion were we given another room, number 1113, instead of the extremely small one. At least this solved the issue with the significant difference in room size. However, we still did not receive the large corner windows and beautiful view that we had originally booked.\n\nFor a hotel in this price category, I find this extremely disappointing. If certain room categories are advertised and booked specifically with large windows and a particular type of view \u2013 and this is even confirmed by phone one day before arrival \u2013 I expect either to receive exactly what I booked or, at the very least, to be given a proper explanation and a customer-oriented solution.\n\nUnfortunately, the negative impression continued with the service.\n\nThe breakfast itself was very good, but the service was surprisingly disorganized and overwhelmed, even though the restaurant was by no means full and several members of staff were working. We sometimes waited a very long time just to place an order, and orders were repeatedly forgotten or mixed up. A bagel with avocado became toast with avocado, other orders arrived differently from what had been requested, espresso was confused with regular coffee, and tea orders were also mixed up.\n\nOne situation was particularly frustrating: a member of staff deliberately did not write down our order and confidently indicated that she could remember everything. Only a few minutes later, she returned several times to ask us again what we had ordered. We were a small group, and several of us had even ordered the same thing.\n\nThe explanation we repeatedly heard was that \u201cthere was a lot going on.\u201d However, that was not our impression at all. There were still empty tables and several members of staff serving a relatively small breakfast area. For a hotel catering to an international clientele, I would expect a normal breakfast service to be handled much more professionally.\n\nWe also found the attitude at reception disappointing on several occasions. For example, when we returned umbrellas that we had borrowed because of the heavy rain and simply wanted to let reception know that we had brought them back, we felt as though we were disturbing the employee rather than speaking to someone working in guest services.\n\nWe had a similar experience when asking about the weather. Of course, I do not expect hotel staff to be meteorologists. However, when you have many international guests who do not know the city, a friendly and helpful response would go a long way. For example, they could have mentioned that weather conditions can vary considerably even within Manhattan or recommended a reliable local weather app or website. Instead, we received a very short and rather unhelpful response.\n\nThese are exactly the small things that, in my opinion, define good hotel service: helping guests who are unfamiliar with the city and making them feel welcome rather than making them feel as though they are interrupting or inconveniencing the staff.\n\nThis is particularly unfortunate because the rooms themselves were nice and the breakfast was tasty. The hotel certainly has the potential to provide a very enjoyable stay.\n\nOverall, however, I was extremely disappointed. What bothered me most was that we had specifically booked rooms with large corner windows and a beautiful view, had even called the hotel the day before to confirm this, and were assured that we would receive the rooms we had selected. In the end, we received rooms with normal or very small windows and a completely different view from what we had expected and paid for.\n\nWhen guests pay for a specific room category and experience, they should receive what they booked.\n\nBeautiful rooms and good food, but in terms of room allocation, communication, friendliness, and overall service, there is significant room for improvement.
